APPLYING PASTEL TO A COLLAGE BOARD - part 2
There are three or four more simple steps in creating this pastel painting over a collage board. The first is to apply the first layer of pastel which is generally duller and darker than the final layer. Then turn the pastel pigment into paint using rubbing alcohol (this is more important if using a smooth ground that is less capable of holding multiple layers).
The Final Stages
The next application of pastel should match the colours in the reference image. These will generally be brighter and stronger than the first layer and will sit nicely on top of the duller base colours. Finish the painting with dark bridging lines to add range and structure.
