BOOK OF TODAY: TAO TE CHING
I first read this book many years ago whilst living in Hong Kong and was immediately struck by it’s wisdom and power. It was so different from the Bible which in comparison seemed dull and incredibly difficult to read. This little book however appeared fresh and lively and surprisingly up-to-date. The first time I read it it made perfect sense, not that I understood exactly what I was reading but never-the-less what it was saying was sensible. The Bible is regarded as being divinely inspired, I feel sure the Tao Te Ching comes from the same place.
An added beauty of this translation by Stephen Mitchell is that every other page shows a traditional chinese painting which serves to enhance the text.
