WHERE’S THE CRACK
Today I have been experimenting with Cracking Varnish by Lefranc & Bourgeois. To begin with an application of Ageing Varnish is applied to the painted surface, this is a spirit based varnish I think; brushes require cleaning in white spirit. What I hadn’t realised until today is that the varnish is made to work with acrylic paintings; I tried it on my oil painting anyway. The water based Cracking Varnish is applied on top of the Ageing Varnish while it is still tacky. The results were not very successful more experimentation is required.
This is a close up image of the painting that was varnished today. The surface was already highly textured before the application of the two varnishes. Next time I shall experiment on a smoother surface.
