IS NEWSPAPER A GOOD SUBSTITUTE FOR TOILET PAPER?
Of course not but we may have to resort to it in these days of panic buying. It might not make great loo paper but newspaper is great for making collage boards. Today I thought I would try and create a pastel painting over a collage board.
Materials and Process
I began with a sheet of sturdy backing board onto which I stuck ripped up pieces of newspaper using PVA glue. When dry I coated the collage board with a layer of clear pastel primer which should hold the pastels without the need of fixative. Then I printed a reference image of a painting by Joan Eardley. Finally I sketched out the basic design using a Wolff’s carbon pencil but any pastel pencil would have been ok.
The remaining part of the process will be described in tomorrows post.
