A few days ago I completed a Buddha drawing. This was very helpful to get familiar with the image and especially the values. That was the groundwork for a painting which I have now begun. Below is a step by step process of the painting starting with the initial drawing in blue pencil. Then I fixed the lines that I wanted with a permanent black ink. After that was the first block in or if you prefer the ebauche. Next comes the background which is of a different temperature. Then strengthen the darks and lit planes. The painting is now ready to be nuanced.
The idea with this painting is to make the Buddha look almost as though he is floating in a cloud of light.
