Today I am revealing the contents of my sketch tin. When it comes to art materials I am a bit of a hoarder but actually that’s not such a bad thing. One needs to know what’s good and what’s not so good for there’s nothing worse than investing in new materials just to find out they’re cr*p, and there’s an awful lot of cr*p out there. This is especially true of graphite pencils (and colour ones come to that) which if they’re really cheap will not even sharpen.
For the last ten year I’ve been using Faber Castell 9000 clutch pencils. Six clutch pencils for six grades of lead, from 3h to 6b. Together with a couple of click erasers, a soft brush, sharpener, putty rubber and 6 inch rule they are all I need to produce near realistic portraits. What do you consider essential for a sketch tin? Why not drop us a line in the comments below.
