Texture can be achieved in a realistic drawing or loose abstract painting. Textures can look rough or smooth, deep or shallow, soft or hard. A painting could be simply about texture rather than about an object of which texture is just one characteristic.

The drawing aims at capturing the shape and volume of a shoe and in so doing  reveals the texture of leather. The painting aims to create the illusion of brick and stone texture and in so doing reveals the form of a wall.
