Form or shape is probably the most important aspect of an object people consider when it comes to drawing. For example if you were asked to draw a tree, what would be the first thing that comes to your mind? For most people it would be the overall shape. But you might focus in on a specific aspect of the tree such as the colour of the leaves, the complexity of the roots or the texture of the bark. Not the whole tree but part of the tree.

Creating the illusion of texture in your drawings can be particularly rewarding and satisfying. A range of textures in your drawing or painting will make it more interesting; this would be a major reason for starting an artwork on a collage board. In painting texture can be achieved physically ( 3-dimensionally) but in a drawing the illusion of texture is achieved through mark variation.
