TREE SKETCH 2

06/04/2020
The real beauty of sketching organic forms like boots and trees is that you can’t go wrong. This is perhaps even more true when drawing from your imagination.

The sketch below was initially based on an image of a bonsai tree but once the underlying abstraction was in place less and less attention was paid to the reference image. In fact this sketch turned out to be quite experimental starting with the first marks that were made with a large lump of graphite putty. The blue background was then painted in and the surface received a layer of fixative. This was followed by a layer of clear pastel primer and finished with pastels.
